February 2012 Letter from the President

Hello Members.

Oh the joy of going to an exhibit!  And there are lots of great exhibits going on everywhere right now…including the VAAL classroom!  Fourteen pieces have been hung from the  drawing held at the January meeting.  Congratulations to Kathleen O’Connell, Marge Masek, Pat Becker, Mary Jo  Weiss, Ann O’Shaughnessy, Yvette Goldberg, Judith Waterman, Joan Boerger, Ellen Yak, Clarine Boles, Karla Kerber, Paul Hebert and Mary Kehoe.  What a wonderful variety of work: acrylics, mixed media, collages, watercolors, pastel and oil.  What a talented family of artists and instructors we have.

I always come away from an exhibit inspired.  It’s one of my favorite ways to see what’s new and unique.  Books and magazines are good, but an exhibit of live art gives me more to think about.  The colors are true, and the variety of styles and themes and mediums make me think out of my own little box of ideas.

I’m happy to report the VAAL’s Spring Exhibit is already in the planning stage.  We’ll have a critique night at the April meeting, jury night in May and hanging and reception in June.  So keep it in mind as you paint this Spring.  We are very proud of the continual advancement of all of our members and the powerful show it has became.

So with these thought in mind….find an exhibit to visit, find inspiration, and paint, paint, paint!
