WHAT IS YOUR PARADISE #41?

Orchids or palm trees, oceans or mountains, the seasons or the sun, we are drawn to the place that defines our "paradise". Winding paths in the woods, or down ancient streets...so many ideas spring to mind. Bring photos of your experience and what you have discovered. This will be the subject of your paintings. We will add collage, stamping and acrylic for those who are interested. Janis can be reached at janiyola@aol.com or 248-561-9637.

CELEBRATING YOUR CREATIVE SELF # 57

Spend some time getting to know who you are as an artist. During this workshop you will connect with your inner creative diva. During the first two days, Donna will show you how to layer paint, texture, and collage. Once you have beautiful painted surfaces to work with, the birthing process of your creative companion begins by tearing , sewing, weaving, and otherwise constructing a figurative piece. How to unify and embellish your piece will be discussed in order to bring your creative self to life. Donna will provide guidance throughout this intuitive process. Fun and laughter are essential! You may want to begin by simplifying a composition from one of your existing paintings or work completely non-objective by arranging some elements and principals of design. Bring your watercolor paints and papers including a sheet of hot press paper, wax paper, and any stamping devices if you have them. Bring a board to support your painting or if you can, stretch and mount a piece of hot press watercolor paper to a board.

REDUCTIVE PRINTMAKING WITH EZCUT #74

Instead of using linoleum we’ll use EZcut—it really is so much easier to cut! Starting with design, we’ll cut out part of it and then ink and print. Then we’ll cut out more from the same plate and ink another color and print that on top of the first printing. We can use quite a few different colors and have a nice little edition all without a press!!! Laura will supply everything—just bring some ideas for a design, a pencil and sketchbook and wear grubby clothes. We’ll be using water- soluble inks and print paper. Material Fee of $10 (payable first class) will include a piece of BFK Rives paper, your EZcut piece, Faust water-soluble inks, brayers, lino cutters, plates, etc. The plate is 6"x9".

WATERCOLOR-NON-FINITO #188

We’ve all been fascinated by paintings that are left partially unfinished. The images emerge into focus and gradually fade into the white of the paper. The subject can be flowers, figures, Mayan temples, landscape, animals etc. etc. You may choose to introduce collage elements such as rice paper, sand, or raised textures from stencils using light modeling paste. These materials must be subtly integrated to enhance the mood, not distract from it, or use transparent watercolor alone to create lovely ethereal effects, so appealing in this style. Experiment and experience yet another approach to the medium you love. Edee will provide demonstrations, individual help and inspiration. Serious new painters are welcome.
